KesselsGranger DesignWorks has been entrusted with the styling of two new passenger catamarans for Dutch client Aqualiner, each measuring 35m in length. These catamarans are being built by the experienced Rodman shipyard in Spain.
The styling incorporates elegant lines and a practical design. Features include the curved upper rear deck providing a flybridge appearance, panorama roof and the angled bridge with full-width external viewing platforms for optimal visibility.
The 35m vessels will be the largest passenger catamarans built in GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) in Spain and two of the largest for inland fast ferry passenger transport in Europe.
Since July 2017, Aqualiner has been involved in an important mobility project in Antwerp, known as DeWaterbus. Aqualiner operates several DeWaterbus ferries on the river Schelde and Albert Canal, offering a unique Public Transport service for commuters, students and tourists. Since 1999 Aqualiner has been involved in several similar projects including Waterbus Rotterdam. The services in Antwerp represent their first international expansion. It is their expectation that they will be active in more countries, areas and cities with mobility challenges and congestion issues.
Both vessels, measuring 35m in length, will be built under the European Standard ES (TRIN). Each of them will be capable of transporting 248 passengers and will be equipped with bicycle racks on deck with capacity for 63 bicycles. The open upper sightseeing deck has been developed for the enjoyment of passengers during navigation in the different seasons of the year.

Following its US debut during the PASIC, the World’s Premier Drum & Percussion Festival, the new Alpha Z Frame made its European lauch during the Adams International Percussion Festival. Designed by KesselsGranger DesignWorks for Adams signature marimba artist Nancy Zeltsman, the Z Frame integrates the instrument’s support section with the flowing rail and resonator design for a cohesive and complete look. The design also offers great stability. The characteristic Z frame (which coincidentally matches the artist’s surname) is made from a single casting of aluminium, whereas the wing shaped wheel supports are made from solid oak. Nancy Zeltsman, Chair of Percussion / Marimba at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, says “The most important thing to me is creative inspiration, and I’m feeling it with the Adams marimba, and the sleek modern design of the Alpha Z!”

The combination of business identity, the design and the application of the product and attractive pricing will be therefore crucial for successful sales. Alongside this, the cost effectiveness for the entrepreneur will be the ultimate key to success.
KesselsGranger DesignWorks, located in Belgium (C-mine, Genk) and the Netherlands (Helmond), is already well-known in the design world for bringing together identity, design, application and cost effectiveness.
